The reason we chose 1000km is a simple rounding of the 963km that the maps say.
But the track has changed since the maps were printed and is growing towards 1000km. A couple of examples are:
- A kilometre or two has been added on the walk into the Mt Cooke Camp site; and
- About 5km has been added on the way to the Noggerup Camp site south of Mumballup Tavern.
Experience to date is that the GPS reads about 3% greater than the maps (includes pit stops, etc), 3% of 1000km is about 30km.
So 1000km is a reasonable guess of the minimum kilometres that will actually be walked to break the record.
