4th Training - 220 km 4 Days Walk

The 4 days' walk from 24-27 July was Paul's highest achievement thus far as he ploughed through 4 days covering a total of 220 km from Harvey Quindanning Road, Collie, Balingup, Blackwood and finished on Graphite Road, off Brockman Hwy.

Travellers on the Bibbulmun Track will take shelter at the 3 sided shelter huts stationed across the track.  People can spend a night here but it is freezing cold even on a good day.  You can't light fires here because you are on the edge of a pine plantation.  However the panoramic views are excellent.  Paul at this stage would replenish his water supply by filtering water from a rain water tank into his water bladder using a thin stocking.  Paul has a good immunity and has been okay so far.   Here is how a shelter hut looks like at Blackwood.

Road posts and waugal track markers are posted throughout the whole Bibbulmun Track for easy navigation.

This time, Paul introduced the GPS transmitter and our communication was a whole lot better, faster and easier.  However we still had difficulty with coverage at certain areas.  Joy realised she has to buy an aerial for her Telstra mobile phone and NextG broadband the next time we go out.  The biggest challenge we found this time was to find the right spot to park our bus.  We continued to meet up with Paul midway on all 4 days to find out how he was coping.

The support team, on the other hand had a great time too!   We met up once again with Paul at an old mining site next to the Donnelly River Holiday Village, and were greeted by a group of very tame and friendly Australian emus and kangaroos!  The three of us were very delighted with our animal friends.  Hope they felt likewise with us too!

Joy had company!
